Big Basin Redwoods State Park

CAMPING

Big Trees. Sweet Dreams.

Mountain Parks Foundation's primary mission is to support interpretive and educational experiences at Big Basin and Henry Cowell Redwoods State Parks.  We understand that for many, the ultimate park experience includes camping in our beautiful forests.  While we do not handle camping reservations ourselves, we have included information below to assist you with your reservation needs. Visit California State Parks’ website for more detailed information.

Camping at Big Basin Redwoods State Park

21600 Big Basin Way, Boulder Creek, CA 95006

There are 146 family campsites located in four campgrounds. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring, and most have wooden storage cupboards. Piped drinking water, restrooms and showers are found in all the campgrounds. Some sites are designated for tent camping due to uneven parking spurs; many sites are multipurpose and have level parking areas large enough for most campers, trailers, and RVs. There are no hook-ups for RVs; however, there is a dump station located at Huckleberry Campground. Campers wanting a bit more privacy may enjoy one of the walk-in tent sites in the park. These campsites, just a short walk from the parking area, give you a greater sense of “being away from it all” and they have the same amenities as the rest of the campsites. There are four group camps in the park. The two sites at Sequoia Campground can accommodate up to 50 people each and may be reserved together for groups up to 100. Sequoia has hot water and showers in a central restroom. Sky Meadow’s two camps each hold 40 people and may also be booked together for larger groups. Sky Meadow is a walk-in camp and has piped water and pit toilets, but no showers or hot water.

To make reservations you will need to call Reserve California at (800) 444-7275 or visit Reserve California’s website. The Reserve California website features campsite maps showing the location of each site in relation to parking, restrooms, and other facilities.

Tent Cabins

Big Basin Redwoods State Park features Tent Cabin camping. These charming one-room cabins are managed by a private concession. Reservations can be made online at www.reservecalifornia.com or by calling 800-444-7275. Site selection is on a first come, first served basis after you have registered.

Trail Camps

Eight Trail Camps are also in the park, mostly along the Skyline to the Sea Trail. You must have a reservation to camp at the trail camps, and cannot camp two consecutive nights at the same site. Reservations can be made up to two months in advance. Reserve trail camp sites by calling Big Basin Headquarters at (831) 338-8861, Mon-Fri 9 am to 5 pm, March through October.
