Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park
School Group Program Information

Thank you for your interest in a field trip to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.  Our programs are based on the California State Curriculum guidelines, grades K-12.  Pre and post activity ideas are available upon request.   We aim to make this a worthwhile and fun field trip for you and your students.  If planning to eat lunch here, there is a beautiful picnic area a short walk from the redwood grove.  Reservations must be made at least 15 days in advance of your planned field trip.  Please read on to maximize your time in the park. 

We suggest students bring the following:

  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Long pants
  • Layered clothing
  • Jacket (check weather conditions)
  • Water bottle
  • Name tag

Rules for all school group visitors:

  • Maximum group size: 35 (including both students and adults). We can usually accommodate up to 3 groups maximum a day.
  • Adult/ Student ratio: 1 to 7
  • Teachers are in charge of discipline.
  • Teachers are in charge of first aid and should bring a first aid kit on the trail.
  • Docent-led walks will be canceled due to heavy rain, please call to cancel as soon as possible if heavy rain is the case, 335-7077.
  • For any other cancellation, please give at least 24 hours notice.
  • Please arrive early so students can use the restroom before the walk.
  • Please have your students divided into small groups, each with a parent chaperone.
  • Chaperones and teachers are needed to be attentive and involved.
  • Park fees are waived for school groups (K-12) with a reservation.
               
    When You Arrive:
    At entrance kiosk identify yourself, school, and inform park aide that yhave a reservation.  They will have a record of it in the kiosk.
    The park aide will grant the parking passes at the entrance.  You will not receive an actual parking pass, but you and all in your group will have waived fees for the time you are in the park.
    Your docent will meet you in the day use parking lot in front of the Mountain Parks Store.
